The Sudan Programme campaigns for human and legal rights in Sudan, focusing on two areas:
Southern Sudanese Peace This monitors the maintenace of human and legal rights in southern Sudan; trains lawyers, judges and other legal officials in human rights; and acts as a conduit and good office for negotiations between groups on either side of the conflict. The programme has previously focused on the rights of women in Sudan, and in 2000 facilitated the first Sudanese women’s human rights conference.
Darfur This programme operates as a response to the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, providing information on the conflict, its’ protagonists, and the history and society in Darfur to aid public understanding and inform the programmes of the African Union and national governments engaged in resolving the crisis. It has culminated in the current book Darfur: A Short History of A Long War by Julie Flint and Alex de Waal [Zed Books; 2005]
